Arts and Entertainment editor, OU Daily: Aug 2017- Dec 2017
Managed a team of eight people, covering the Norman arts community, local culture and pop culture. Worked to tailor our coverage to focus on the Norman community, through features on local restaurants, entrepreneurs and unique alumni. Wrote a feature on a graduate student breaking his family's cycle of incarceration. The story had an average 2:15 time on page.
Reporting intern, The Wichita Eagle: June-Aug 2017
Worked on local business pieces, features, local news and cops reporting. Also shot video to go with my stories. Wrote a follow up on a local man who had started building schools in a sherpa village in Nepal after almost dying while climbing Everest. This summer he was diagnosed with brain cancer, putting the project on hold.
Engagement managing editor, OU Daily: Aug 2016-May 2017
Managed the OU Daily’s four social media accounts and website. Led a team of three social media coordinators and a web editor. Helped integrate social media and digital tools in The Daily’s coverage. Worked to build The Daily’s video presence through Videolicious app as well as more developed video. Worked on a project with the OU Disability Inclusion and Aware- ness group, creating a video/column series showing what disability looks like on a college campus.
Enterprise intern, The Oklahoman: June-July 2016
Did a blend of digital work, ran social media accounts, analyzed data and wrote stories. Worked on stories ranging from Oklahoma gun history to a feature on an Oklahoma boxer who had known Muhammad Ali. Wrote blog posts on news topics as well as upcoming events and made graphics. Also shot video.
Special projects editor, The Oklahoma Daily: Dec 2015-May 2016
Served as a part of the spring 2016 editorial board. Planned three special editions of the paper: The Financial Issue, SAE Anniversary Edition and Norman Music Fest Edition. Helped plan the 4/20 Issue. Wrote a feature on a former SAE member, which had over 2,700 page views and an average 1:15 time on page. Created a video/column series about Islamophobia. Shot and edited man on the street videos as well as segments on the Medieval Fair and Norman Music Fest.
Community outreach editor, The Oklahoma Daily: Aug-Dec 2015
Coordinated columns and multimedia packages using video and social media. Worked on a mental health series, which paired student columns with videos to destigmatize mental illness.
News reporter, The Oklahoma Daily: Jan-Aug 2015
During the SAE fraternity scandal, which became national news, covered President Boren’s press conference revealing the results of the university’s investigation. Also covered a campus candlelight vigil led by students after the shooting in Charles- ton, S.C.
